Italian archeologists have discovered the tomb of the ancient Roman hero said to have inspired the character played by Russell Crowe in the film 'Gladiator'.
Daniela Rossi, a Rome archeologist, said the discovery of the monumental marble tomb of Marcus Nonius Macrinus, including a large inscription bearing his name, was "an exceptional find". She said it was "the most important ancient Roman monument to come to light for twenty or thirty years".
The tomb is on the banks of the Tiber near the via Flaminia, north of Rome. Cristiano Ranieri, who led the archeological team at the site, said the tomb had long ago collapsed into the mud but its columns, roof and decorations were intact. Some parts of the tomb had slipped into the river, but had been recovered.

Wow, I love his interview, especially after the news of his previous career got out. He sits there speaking to the camera about being embarrassed about people seeing his package in a leotard back when he did gymnastics.
Well, this not so shy American Idol contestant was a stripper for three years up until September 30, 2007, according to his ex-manager, Gordy Bryan. Evidently he was a male stripper in a Phoenix night club where the majority of his clientèle was male. Apparently Hernandez fit in rather well according to Bryan, “He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here.”
Those in fear of not seeing Mr. Helicopter Hernandez again after this news leaked, don’t worry, he will be back on Tuesday as planned.
Now, think back to previous American Idol scandals, “In 2003, finalist Frenchie Davis was dismissed because of her appearance on an adult Web site; but last year, Antonella Barba remained in the competition after racy photos of her surfaced on the Internet.” What on Earth is the difference between these three cases? No clue, American Idol is pretty random on this subject. But then again it is up to the public to see how far these contestants go after they pass the AI test. Will the public vote more or less for Hernandez after they learned he did the helicopter on stage?

A building collapse at 124th Street and Park Avenue has prompted the MTA to shut down all train service in and out of Grand Central Terminal. Metro-North's Dan Brucker told WCBS 880, "We don't know how long the closure will last. We have been told by the police not to have any trains run through the 125th Street station."
That's probably because the authorities are concerned that vibrations from the trains will affect the building. The building at 102 East 124th Street partially collapsed a little after noon, and then later the entire building collapsed. The building next to it, 100 East 124th, is in danger of collapsing and will be demolished immediately. It's believed the buildings, which are owned by Kushner Companies, are vacant - no injuries are reported.
All trains are being held at stations above 125th Street. About 80-90,000 people using Metro-North during rush hour, which means that when (if) service resumes, there will be some crazy delays. Additionally, WABC 7 reports, "some equipment will be out of position because it is now stuck outside of Grand Central Terminal."
And it looks like the MTA website is currently down back up: "Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Line train service has been temporarily suspended into and out of Grand Central Terminal because of a building collapse in the vicinity of 124 Street and Park Avenue." And from the NYC Transit alert, "Also, due to a building collapse in the vicinity of 124th Street and Park Avenue affecting Metro-North Railroad Service in and out of Grand Central Station, New York City Transit is cross-honoring Metro-North Railroad ticket holders at the Marble Hill-225th Street Station, Wakefield-241st Street Station, 233rd Street Station and the Grand Central-42nd Street Station."

(Basketball reference on PopWatch!) It was almost as if he was on someone's lap! Now I understand.
Former strippers are on a serious roll in Hollywood, so I say let's give this one a chance, if only for the hot moves David could whip out until Idol gives him the boot. What do you think?

Service on all three main lines of the Metro-North Railroad — the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines — was suspended at 3:15 p.m. after a vacant five-story building collapsed at 124th Street and Park Avenue, one block from the 125th Street station in Harlem, where all three lines stop on their way to and from Grand Central Terminal.
Service was restored starting at 4:45 p.m., starting with a 3:50 p.m. Hudson Line train bound for Croton-Harmon, which left Grand Central about an hour after its scheduled departure. By then, an untold number of trains and passengers had been inconvenienced, with many passengers told to find alternative means of travel.
There were no reports of any injuries. At 11:54 a.m., a caller reported that the facade on the east side of the building, at 102 East 124th Street, had deteriorated and partly collapsed into an adjacent lot. After city workers responded to the scene, the rest of the building fell, officials said. The stability of an adjacent vacant building, at 100 East 124th Street, has been compromised, and the building will be demolished imminently as a precaution, officials said.
According to property records, both properties are owned by Kushner Companies, a property management firm based in Manhattan and Florham Park, N.J. Jared C. Kushner, a principal of the firm, is the owner and publisher of The New York Observer. The records indicate that the properties were sold together for $5.2 million in 2006. City tax records describe 102 East 124th Street as a five-story, 19-unit building and 100 East 24th Street as a five-story, 25-unit building. Both were built in 1910. The Buildings Department’s online database states that a stop-work order was issued for the site on Jan. 8.
Howard J. Rubenstein, a spokesman for Jared Kushner, said the company had planned to demolish the buildings and intended to go through with the work starting at 7 p.m. this evening.
“The buildings had been vacant for about six months, and the company had initially intended to rehabilitate the buildings,” Mr. Rubenstein said. “Two days ago, bricks started to fall from the building. Kushner sent engineers down, and they determined that both buildings were not stable, were not safe. At Grand Central Terminal, a loud groan arose from the main hall after an announcement on the intercom system at 4:10 p.m. said that service was suspended. Hundreds of people milled around in the main hall, many of them talking on their cellphones. A giant message board stated, “Attention customers, due to Fire Department activity, Metro-North service has been temporarily discontinued.”
Sarah English, 29, who works in financial services in Westchester County, was on a business trip in Manhattan today and arrived at Grand Central at 3:30 p.m. to catch a train back home to Chappaqua.
“First they said service was temporarily discontinued, and then they said about 10 minutes later that service was going to resume on a limited basis,” she recalled around 4:30 p.m. “And then they said, after about another 10 minutes, that full service would be restored. And then about 10 minutes ago, they said there was no service at all.” She was talking with friends about whether to rent a car, take a bus or find another source of transportation.
Service was restored starting at 4:45 p.m., starting with a 3:50 p.m. Hudson Line train bound for Croton-Harmon, which left Grand Central about an hour after its scheduled departure. By then, an untold number of trains and passengers had been inconvenienced, with many passengers told to find alternative means of travel.
There were no reports of any injuries. At 11:54 a.m., a caller reported that the facade on the east side of the building, at 102 East 124th Street, had deteriorated and partly collapsed into an adjacent lot. After city workers responded to the scene, the rest of the building fell, officials said. The stability of an adjacent vacant building, at 100 East 124th Street, has been compromised, and the building will be demolished imminently as a precaution, officials said.
According to property records, both properties are owned by Kushner Companies, a property management firm based in Manhattan and Florham Park, N.J. Jared C. Kushner, a principal of the firm, is the owner and publisher of The New York Observer. The records indicate that the properties were sold together for $5.2 million in 2006. City tax records describe 102 East 124th Street as a five-story, 19-unit building and 100 East 24th Street as a five-story, 25-unit building. Both were built in 1910. The Buildings Department’s online database states that a stop-work order was issued for the site on Jan. 8.

Brett Favre listed stress as the reason for his retirement today, and he said the more the Packers won, the more stress he felt.
You can listen to his explanation, via a voicemail to Chris Mortensen of ESPN. Favre seemed emotional, and his rationale leaves a little doubt about whether there still may be a chance he can be persuaded to return. He said the only outcome that would justify a comeback would be to win the Super Bowl, and he said he wasn’t up to that kind of pressure.
He may not want to leave that impression as his final one — that the quintessial competitor can’t face up to that kind of challenge. He’ll have another shot to explain: The Packers have announced a news conference for 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
At The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, that feeling of doubt was voiced by Favre’s agent, who said the Packers didn’t make a big effort to make him feel wanted.
